My name is Katie Ory. I am a single mama, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and am now living in the mountains of Tennessee. I am the Youth and Children’s Director at my church and am currently in graduate school. I have always loved Disney, but fell in love with the parks and Disney Cruise Lines (DCL) when I brought my daughter to Walt Disney World about 7 years ago. I spend a lot of time traveling; backpacking around Europe, road trips to obscure locations, and exploring new places. I have spent the night on park benches in Munich and wrapped in down comforters at the Ritz. No class to first class, but there is nothing as magical a Disney class. Disney manages to sprinkle their magical pixie dust on all of our adventures.
What is your favorite must-have treat at Disney World?
I am a girl who loves the classics. I will have to go with Dole Whips and Mickey Bars as my favorite. I don’t make it to the parks as often as I go on Disney cruises, so I am glad you can get a Dole Whip now aboard a ship and unlimited complimentary Mickey Bars.
Favorite Disney memory?
My favorite Disney memory was on our second DCL cruise. They misprinted a time to meet with Stitch, and my daughter was really disappointed. That night there was a message on our stateroom phone inviting us to breakfast at the lookout on deck 14. When we arrived it was just us and two other families along with a lavish breakfast buffet. Moments later Stitch came strolling in. We spent an entire hour eating and playing with Stitch. It was magical!
Favorite restaurant at Disney?
My favorite Disney Restaurant is Cabanas on any DCL ship. I will never forget my first morning aboard DCL. My daughter and I were so excited to be there that we woke up at sunrise and went and ate breakfast on the aft balcony of Cabanas. We were the only ones out there. The sun broke through the clouds and made sunbeams that pierced the beautiful sky. Anne looked at me and said it was my mommy looking over us. Disney Magic at it’s finest. Now it is the restaurant we begin and end each cruise.
Favorite DCL destination?
My favorite destination is Castaway Cay, although Jamaica is a close second. Castaway Cay is the most beautiful paradise covered in pixie dust and magic. It is a place you can forget all of your worries and simply relax. Hammocks in the shade, unlimited soft serve, serenity bay, pristine blue waters, and pictures with Mickey!
What should guests remember when visiting the parks?
Remember to enjoy the little moments. I love watching Anne watch the fireworks. I will forget a lot of the details of each day, but the sparkle in her eyes I will never forget.
